MSPP Competencies

Microsoft Competencies allow you to promote your specific capabilities to customers, through the use of tailored logos and through a wide range of customer-facing directories. By achieving a competency, you can gain access to a range of benefits, resources, and tools that can help you drive profitability for your organization.
Competency Requirements Overview

Customer references, individual certifications, or development of tested, certified software based on Microsoft technologies —and in some cases, meeting minimum sales bars —can help you qualify for a Microsoft Competency. Partner organizations at the Certified and Gold Certified levels may attain one or more Microsoft Competencies. Gold Certified Partners are required to attain at least one competency. Certified Partners are not required to earn a competency; however, it is highly recommended.
To view the process for earning a competency, download the Earning a Competency Guideor click on any competency listed in the table on this page to learn more about its requirements. To enroll in any Microsoft Competency, you must:
  • Be an active member of the Microsoft Partner Program.
  • Meet the appropriate individual or software certification requirements.
  • Meet the minimum sales bar as appropriate.
  • Submit at least three* Microsoft Competency-specific customer references:
    • Each customer reference must feature a project that you have completed for a customer within the last 12 months. You may use three separate projects for an individual customer as your three references.
    • Each reference will be verified with your customer. Upon approval, the reference will be valid up to one year after your program anniversary.
    • For more information about submitting customer references and to preview the reference profile questions, download the Earning a Competency Guide.

*The Learning Solutions competency requires only one reference.

Competency Activation

When all requirements for a Microsoft Competency have been met, membership in the competency will be activated if you’re a Certified Partner or Gold Certified Partner. If you’re a Registered Member, you’ll be eligible for the Certified Partner level when your organization has met all requirements for a competency, completed the enrollment process, and paid the required membership fee.
